The use and maintenance of prepainted steel coils should focus on “protecting the coating, preventing rust, and maintaining the structure”, with the core goal of extending service life and avoiding damage caused by improper operation. The specific key points are as follows:
I. Precautions for Use (Installation)
Three types of risks should be avoided during installation:
– Environmental risks: Construction is prohibited on rainy days, snowy days, or when the base material is dewy to prevent rust caused by residual moisture. Outdoor installation should avoid winds of force 5 or above to prevent plate collision and deformation.
– Operational risks: Wear gloves during handling to prevent sweat from contaminating the coating. Use a dedicated cutter for cutting (grinding wheels are prohibited, as high temperatures will damage the edge coating). Waterproof gaskets must be equipped with fixing screws, which should be driven vertically with moderate force (excessive force will crack the gasket, while insufficient force may cause water leakage).
– Structural risks: Reserve a 10-15mm thermal expansion joint every 10-15 meters. Apply silicone sealant to the splice joints. For roof installation, the upper plate should overlap the lower plate (with an overlap of ≥10cm) to prevent rainwater backflow.
II. Daily Maintenance Key Points
Daily maintenance consists of “cleaning” and “inspection”:
– Cleaning: For outdoor use, clean dust and bird droppings every 2-3 years with a neutral detergent (e.g., detergent mixed with water) and a soft cloth or low-pressure water gun. For indoor use, wipe with a dry cloth monthly. Steel wool and strong acid-alkali detergents (e.g., hydrochloric acid, caustic soda) are prohibited to avoid scratching or corroding the coating.
– Inspection: Inspect once every six months in ordinary environments, and shorten the interval to 3 months in coastal high-salt-fog environments. Focus on checking screw holes, splice joints, and edges to confirm no coating peeling, sealant cracking, or base material rusting.
III. Abnormal Situation Handling
– For small-area coating scratches (where the base material is not exposed), apply 2-3 thin coats of the same-color special repair paint.
– For slight rust on the base material, first remove rust with sandpaper, apply anti-rust primer, and then touch up with topcoat.
– If the damaged area exceeds 1/3 of a single plate or the rust depth exceeds 0.1mm, the plate must be replaced directly to prevent rust from spreading and affecting the overall structure.
