Coatings commonly used in the production of prepainted zincalume steel sheet

1. Polyvinylidene fluoride resin(PVDF)

Polyvinylidene fluoride coating belongs to a high-temperature curing coating, which has the advantages of weather resistance, stain resistance, color retention, good toughness, wear resistance, impact resistance, chemical resistance, etc. Therefore, it is an ideal exterior wall coating. The polyvinylidene fluoride coating system usually includes three parts: the bottom layer, the surface layer, and the overcoat layer. Different coatings have different paint formulations. Polyvinylidene fluoride coating formulations often include polyvinylidene fluoride resins, modified resins, solvents, pigments, fillers, and additives. The polyvinylidene fluoride resin used for coating is mainly the homopolymer of polyvinylidene fluoride. In the past, the solvent in the coating used isophorone as the primary solvent. Still, since isophorone would pollute the environment, the non-isophorone mixed solvent has become a research hotspot for polyvinylidene fluoride coatings.

2. Silicon-modified polyester resin(SMP)

The polyester coating is used as a topcoat in the production of prepainted zincalume steel sheet, with good strength, adhesion, and flexibility. However, when used in exterior architectural and decorative applications, higher weather ability, thermal stability, and aging resistance are desired; coatings that perform better than polyester coatings in these properties are required.

3. Polyacrylic paint

Polyacrylic resin is a chemical product industrially produced in the 1930s and was used in the production of spiral prepainted zincalume steel sheet in the 1950s. The acrylic paint used is heat-cured acrylic paint. It is made of acrylic acid-substituted homologs, their derivatives, or acrylic acid esters.

Due to the wide variety of acrylic monomers, coatings with various properties can be produced. The main chain of the resin in such coatings is formed by the addition polymerization of carbon-carbon double bonds. Polypropylene resin coatings can have a high solid content, maintain gloss and color for a long time, and have good coverage. A coating that can be used outdoors and indoors is especially ideal for indoor appliances.
